This is the second release that is part of our "Love Your Neighbors" project - A celebration of songs from the neighboring countries to the USA and other immigrant songs along with some songs composed by us Yankees.  We hope we aren't being too political here because all political parties have some good ideas and some bad ideas. However, loving your neighbors is something we hope folks from all political parties and all countries try to achieve!

The picture on the EP cover is from the hike up to the Stawamus Chief looking from up on the second peak down to the first peak.  We hiked up here as part of a California to Canada Road Trip

The melody for the Celtic jigs I perform are original almost by accident.   I wanted to play a song for Canada and I thought a jig would be nice.   The traditional Keltic jig Hills of Glenorchy is often played in Canada so I thought I'd play it.  I listened to various versions and each one was different (fiddle tunes often end up like this).   So I started to play it from memory.   What I ended up playing was different from all the other versions I had listened to so I had my own tune.  Also Glenorchy is in Scotland and there is a lot of Scottish culture and history linked into Canada.  However, I wanted to have the title of my EP be about Canada.  I changed the melody a bit more and added some substitution chord changes.  Then I created a different theme (theme 2).   So this is what I ended up with - hope you enjoy!

The Mexican Hat dance, also known as Jarabe Tapatío, is the national dance of Mexico.  It originated as a courtship dance in Guadalajara, Jalisco, during the 19th century. However, some of its elements can be traced back to the Spanish zambra and jarabe gitano.

The standard music of El Jarabe Tapatío was composed by Jesús González Rubio in the 19th century.  The Square Dance Heroes have arranged and recorded El Jarabe Tapatío (The Mexican Hat Dance) for your dancing and listening enjoyment!

Nobody’s Fault but Mine - New EP

We have recorded a traditional square dance music version of the public domain gospel song that Led Zeppelin used for the basis of their recording.

The full extended version of the album has 26 tracks on it including original songs along with some traditional classics.  The full extended version  of the album also includes extended square dance / line dance mixes.  The version released on Spotify only has 14 tracks and doesn't include the extended mixes - why?  Spotify doesn't pay artists if a track gets less than 1000 streams in a year so we are limiting the number of tracks we release on that platform because only our most popular tracks get more than 1000 streams in a year.  You can get the extended mixes on all other platforms.

This album was inspired by all the different countries where folks listen to our music.  It started with a fiddle plucking riff that I made up when I was traveling around.  Then I put the fiddle plucking riff over a hard rock heavy metal beat – country over rock – rock your country!  So the song is rocking country music and rocking countries (different geographical locations).  When I was traveling around, I realized that much of US country music is a melting pot of music from other places, so I hope to pay tribute to that fact!  Sorry if I didn’t mention your specific location - this song is about you where every you are located! Thanks y’all for listening and be sure to ROCK YOUR COUNTRY!!

Thanks for listening Wild Girls and Wild Boys!  I’ve enjoyed the company of friends who are wild girls and wild boys of all ages so I thought I’d write some music about it.  I feel that folks often stereotype people based on their gender and other personal characteristics.  However, these days folks try to break those stereotypes and just come up with some different stereotypes which are just as bad if not worse.  So I didn’t want to do that and used the same words to describe both boys and girls.

While I was working with the hard rock beat, I thought what if we do some traditional country fiddling and traditional fiddle tunes with the hard rock beat?  So that’s what we did – maybe y’all can do a slow line dance!

Square Dance Versions – after fiddling a hoedown slowdown, I thought people might also like the same tunes at a more traditional square dance music tempo – so we did exactly that!

Thanks for listening!

Sincerely Buffalo Dave and the Square Dance Heroes
